J.C. Poe was born and raised in Walker County and graduated from Curry High School in 1972. He began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher with the Jasper Police Department City in1976 and attended the University of Alabama Police Academy in 1978. J.C. then worked as a patrol officer and detective with the Jasper Police Department. In 1983, he began working for theWalker County Sheriff Department as a deputy and investigator. He went on to serve eighteen years with the Walker County Sheriff Department and rose to the position of Chief Deputy. Forthe past ten years, J.C. has served as Chief of Police for the Jasper Police Department where he oversees the $6.5 million police budget, 70 employees, and the city jail. J.C. is also a member of the Alabama Homeland Security Task Force. He has his wife Patty have been married for 40 years.
